India's steel production increased by 3.5% in 1-9 months

According to data compiled by the World Steel Association, from the first nine months of January to September of the 2019 calendar year, Indian crude steel production increased by 3.5% to 84.18 million tons, compared with 81.31 million tons in the same period last year. Worldsteel, based in Brussels, Belgium, said in a press release sent to TOI on Friday that India's crude steel production in September was 9.96 million tons, up 1.6% from the same month in 2018.

In the first nine months of 2019, world crude steel production was 1,391.2 million tons, an increase of 3.9% compared with the same period in 2018. Asia produced 1,000.1 million tons of crude steel, an increase of 6.3% over the first nine months of 2018.”

The report added: "In September 2019, the world's crude steel production in 64 countries reported to the World Steel Association was 151.5 million tons, down 0.3% from September 2018."

According to the press release, China's crude steel output in September 2019 was 82.8 million tons, up 2.2% from September 2018. Japan produced 8 million tons of crude steel in September 2019, a decrease of 4.5% from September 2018. South Korea's crude steel production in September 2019 was 5.7 million tons, a decrease of 2.7% from September 2018.
