Iranian steel capacity continues to increase to reach 43.6 million tons by 2021

According to the progress report of Iran ’s steel development plan, by the end of the next Iranian fiscal year on March 20, 2021, Iran ’s steel capacity is expected to reach 43.6 million tons / year, actual output is expected to reach 31.1 million tons / year, and the nominal capacity utilization rate will reach 71%. Iran's steel production capacity is 35 million tons per year.

 

A person in charge of Iran ’s state-owned mining and metal holding company (Imidro) said that Iran ’s total steel capacity under construction currently reaches 10 million tons, with a completion rate of more than 50%, and another 10 million tons / year of capacity is in the planning stage.

 

Imidro also predicts that by March 20, 2021, Iran's direct reduced iron production capacity will reach 37.2 million tons / year, the actual output is expected to reach 33.6 million tons / year, and the nominal capacity utilization rate is 90%. At present, Iran's direct reduced iron production is about 25.5 million tons per year. Iran's pellet production capacity is expected to reach 66 million tons / year, the actual output is expected to reach 55.3 million tons / year, and the nominal capacity utilization rate is 83%. Imidro predicts that by March 20, 2021, Iran ’s iron ore concentrate production capacity will reach 68.5 million tons / year, the actual output will reach 58.1 million tons / year, and the nominal capacity utilization rate will reach 85%.

 

It is reported that Iran's steel development plan was formulated in 2014, with the goal of increasing Iran's steel production capacity to 55 million tons within ten years.
